Indeed, Nantes features a harmonious blend of historical heritage and innovation, ranging from its Gallo-roman sites to the contemporary architecture by Jean Nouvel.

 

Stroll around the city by walk, tram, bus and visits its highlights:

  • the Gallo roman site of Saint Lupien at Rezé
  • the gothic Cathedral and its outstanding black and white marble tomb of the parents of Anne of Brittany
  • the medieval quarter of Bouffay which has retained all its charm
  • the Castle dating back to the Renaissance period
  • the 18th century Place Royale and theatre and the l'île Feydeau buildings constructed by the rich shipowners during the golden era of the port trading
  • The magnificent Passage Pommeraye, in neoclassical style with a sumptuous decoration, and La Cigale, a very fine brasserie in 1900 style
  • The LU Tower, the old biscuits factory turned into an atypical art centre
  • The Le Courbusier work at Cité radieuse at Rezé
  • The newly built Palais de Justice by Jean Nouvel
  • The Ile de Nantes is an exceptional 350-hectare territory located right in the heart of Nantes, and in front of the historical centre

gastronomy….

 

If you have the chance to stay in the region a little longer, you should not miss:

  • the Loire Estuary, with its canals, islands and natural reserves
  • the Vineyard Trail where, among a large range of wines, you will be able to taste the famous Muscadet
  • Picturesque Pornic or La Baule and all the Atlantic coast
  • The Chateaux de la Loire, built by the kings of France from the 14th to the 16th century, the most famous being the chateau de Chambord (UNESCO world heritage)
